Abstract: Underground Mathematics
(undergroundmathematics.org) provides over 250 rich tasks that offer opportunities for students to think mathematically, reveal their thinking and make connections. The tasks are housed at stations on a tubemap, and the site also highlights six pervasive ideas in mathematics, including averages, limits and invariance.

To support the effective use of rich tasks in lessons, teacher support materials including classroom video clips and teacher notes were developed in collaboration with teachers from partner schools. I will describe the design of the video support materials, how they reflect the philosophy of the project and the ideas that emerged from our work with teachers.
