Royal Statistical Society accreditation

Wednesday, Feb 18th 2015

The Royal Statistical Society (RSS) have announced that they have accredited our honours degrees in Mathematics and Statistics. The new-style degree (Q36) is accredited unconditionally. The old-style degree (B36) is accredited for students who have passed all three of M343, M346 (or the discontinued module M345), and M347.

More details of what accreditation means are available on the RSS website at www.rss.org.uk. The RSS state that the accreditation “is based on the general depth, breadth, quality and foundation of a course and its statistical content.”

This means that students graduating with these qualifications will have a degree accredited by both the RSS and the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (www.ima.org.uk). Only nine other universities, the majority from the Russell Group, currently offer bachelor’s degrees that are jointly accredited by both professional bodies.
